Have you ever thought about becoming a local parish councilor?

Camerton Parish Council is here to represent your interests. As the first tier of local government, we are here to listen to your views and promote your interests. There are many ways in which anyone can participate in making a difference. Residents are welcome to come to the parish council meetings and address local issues at the Public Participation session or (even better) you can become a councilor – and be co-opted into the Parish Council.

The Parish Council has 8 Councilor seats. Currently Camerton PC has four Councilors and so there are 4 seats vacant.

Our Councilor’s live or work in the parish and understand the ever changing needs of the community, volunteering their time to participate in the parish meetings (6-8 per year) and promote the interests of local people. The meetings are held in Camerton Community Hall on the second Wednesday of the month and start at 6:30 pm for about 1 – 2 hours.

Your Council and Community needs you !

We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect their community. Here is a link to a one page document that outlines the criteria, and work of the Parish council. How to join Camerton Parish Council

Western Forest team – engagement funding available:

(New) The Western Forest has funding available to support landowner engagement events that promote woodland creation and management across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and the West of England.

We invite partners, farmer clusters, and community groups to apply for funding to host events that encourage conversations around planting more trees and restoring existing woodlands. Funding can be used to cover costs such as venue hire, refreshments, printed materials, and staff time.

This fund operates on a rolling basis and will remain open until all available funding has been allocated. Early applications are encouraged. Find out more and apply here:

B&NES District Tree and Woodland Strategy – Farmer Survey

Bath & North East Somerset Council is developing a District Tree and Woodland Strategy, and we want to ensure the farming community has a strong voice in shaping it.

As part of this work, we are launching a Farmer Survey to gather insights on:

  • Existing on-farm trees and woodlands
  • Interest in tree and woodland planting and management
  • Barriers and opportunities for new planting and managing of existing trees and woodland

The survey will run from the 6th of January to the 2nd of February 2026 and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. Farmers who take part will also have the opportunity to join a follow-up session to discuss findings and access advice on tree planting and woodland management.

This is an important step in supporting climate resilience, nature recovery, and farm diversification across B&NES. We wanted to let you know that the consultation is live and also we’d appreciate your help in sharing the survey link with your local farming contacts if possible: https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/trees-and-woodlands-strategy-consultation.

Thank you for supporting this initiative and helping us work with the farming community to address the climate and ecological emergencies, while building a greener, more resilient landscape. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with:

Beavers in the Avon River system – advice and support

There is a population of Beavers living in this river system, we don’t know exactly where they originated from, since there have not been any “official” releases in the area. There are sightings of beavers on the Midford Brook and the Wellow Brook, but none (so far) on the Cam Brook. However it’s quite possible they are there already or they may arrive in future. We would be very interested to know if any residents have seen any signs.

Avon Wildlife Trust’s Beaver Advice and Support Team provides free guidance to farmers, landowners and communities who are living alongside wild beavers in the Bristol Avon and Somerset Frome area.

Please help Avon Wildlife Trust monitor the beaver population along the River Avon and its tributaries, like the Cam and Wellow Brooks. As the plant life dies back over the winter, it becomes easier to spot tell-tale signs of beavers, such as gnawed wood and woodchips. If you see any of these signs while out on the river, please fill out the sightings form on their website: www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/beavers.  There’s also a handy spotter’s guide on there with tips on what to look out for.

If you are a landowner and you need free advice and support with managing the impact of beavers on your land please contact alex.preston@avonwildlifetrust.org.uk.
